Ode to Van Gogh
Aug 11th
Just in case you missed it earlier … I went through a stage not so long ago of creating wallhangings based on the works of recent great artists.
In this wallhanging, I created my impression of Vincent Van Gogh’s “sunflowers” in fabric.
The sunflower petals were more loosely attached as they got closer to the surface to give greater visual depth to the wallhanging. This in turn mutes the background into more of a still life.
As with many of the works and indeed perhaps the life of the original artist, everything is offset from the centre, drawing the eye away from the obvious centre to the peripherals. Much as the more observant of our species views the world anyway…
It was “framed” by a wood effect fabric border to resemble a real painting.
Although its been a while since I made one, I’m always after new ideas of art you might like to see replicated in fabric. Drop me a line either just to give me an idea or even if you’d like a commission…..
Making this wallhanging gave me great joy, and brought back many many happy recollections of my time both as a painter and one who appreciated great art. Surprisingly I was really quite upset when it sold, for a very large price. But I’d put so much into it, so much of the inner me, that the price didn’t matter at all. It was the creation, the inspiration of Van Gogh and the energy expended in the design and the actual sewing….
Design and Techniques
May 20th
I am currently running a series of one to one “workshops” (actually more like discussions amid laughter, while pretending to be ever so slightly serious) looking at how we quilters use colour and fabric and our imaginations in our new designs and how we can improve our techniques to further develop these designs.
Although lighthearted and convivial, the sessions explore our approaches to design and how we use our known techniques or learn new ones to implement them into the final quilt or wallhanging or whatever.
If you are interested in joining in – please drop me a line including suggested time / date – generally our shop in Corris is open 11:00 – 16:30 Mon – Sat inclusive.
Price – on application – basically the day is free – just pay for the fabrics used…
Should there be a rainy day in this corner of southern Snowdonia and you need somewhere to park yourself for the day (or part of) or just want that something a bit different whilst on holiday, let us know. You might even get a cup of Tea !!

Celf yn y llan
Sep 23rd
Yep, that was the weekend that was – and we failed miserably to write about it in time …… Art in the Aisles with an apt theme “Heddwch” / “Peace” …. we can only endorse that noble sentiment.
The 4th Binnenial Arts and Craft trail in the lovely Dyffryn Ardudwy, just north of Abermaw (Barmouth). But there again, as you’re in the know you didn’t need reminding and were there; as was Bumble Bee Quilting, just to help support the fabric crafts.
Presumably you got to all the workshops, and you visited the painters, poets, embroiderers, knitters, photographers as well as the textiles and quilters.
We enjoyed it immensly and will return to the church hall in 2 years time – see you all again then no doubt.
We shall also try to give you some advance warning then as well …..

Just thought i’d say a big thanks to my spouse! (I don’t do it very often) – he’s been keeping this blog going for some time, so I thought it about time that we give him some help.
We = (the ladies that meet & greet all visitors to our land based workshop/shop at Corris Craft Centre, who you may or may not have met),
I don’t know if this is a good thing only time will tell – he has done a good job thus far, us ladies are avid readers!
Please let us know if the standard falls.
