American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection
Aug 1st
This is aimed at all those who are fortunate to be able to get to Milwaukee before Sept 9th 2010 …
The Art Museum is exhibiting 40 quilts from the early years of post-Independent America circa 1760-1850
The quilts showcase the culture of the time using the most modern printed fabrics of the era as well as the more traditional technique of re-using any old cast off textiles including cottons, woollens and silk.
Even then in what was a new modern society recently unfettered from colonialism, quilting showed itself to be environmentally friendly.
The quilts dramatically demonstrate a richness of colour and design, based on the then recent political turmoil and the emergence of a new society with an independence of spirit and fashion.

Teresa Anna Quilt – Raffle Winner
Dec 13th
Congratulations to our lucky winner.
The Teresa Ann Quilt being inspected by the winner of our Breast Cancer charity raffle winner. Took a while to arrange the handover … but the result was a happy one.
Jill’s mother bought the winning raffle ticket without telling anyone, so one very happy daughter on being told she had won something she had not entered.
But, we are sure that it has gone to a very worthy home.
Thus far, we have raised over £1800 for Breast Cancer Research.
Some “pink” fabric items remain in our shop in Corris Uchaf (Upper Corris) in mid Wales. All the proceeds from these items will also be donated to Breast Cancer
Festival of Quilts
Aug 4th
I have just just checked with Royal Mail and it seems that my “PearlEssence” quilt was delivered to the organisers on time – Hurrah. Now lets just hope that they opened it in time for inclusion in the display at the NEC.
This is is one of Europe’s biggest quilt fests, to be held at the NEC, Birmimgham, UK on 20th to 23rd August 2009. It is organised by Creative Exhibitions Limited with the support of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles and TwistedThread.
There are several galleries of exhibitions showcasing work from many leading artists and those unheard of before now, together with workshops from the beginner upwards, and a whole wealth of stalls and merchandise on offer. You might like to borrow a shopping trolley as you gather up all those hard to find notions etc that you’ve been searching for all these years.
The festival will be open from 10:00 – 17:30 (17:00 on Sunday) – so if you can make the NEC between 20-23-Aug-2009 go there, there’s no better way to spend a damp and dismal August weekend that surrounded by textiles and art all under the one roof.
Advance prices are £10.00 for a one day ticket and £17.00 for a two day ticket with concessions available as well. In this hard pressed (no pun intended) times surely there can be nothing that offers better value …..Prices on the door will be slightly more.

This is one of the UK’s premier Quilting exhibitions, miss at your peril …..
An opportunity to see some of my designs, if you have not seen them in my shop at Corris Craft Centre, and an example of contemporary Welsh craft.

Dyffryn Ardudwy Fair
Jul 28th
The annual Dyffryn Ardudwy summer craft fair is nearly upon us … This is a mid-summer fair highlighting all sorts of crafts including knitting, photography, painting and textiles (if I have left any out be sure to let me know).
Mostly, if not all, of the exhibitors are local Welsh craftspeople.
BUT — When is it???? Bumble Bee Quilting usually exhibits quilts and wallhangings and other textile wonders.
But, as we don’t know when its to happen we cannot advertise it in our shop in Corris, nor attend.
If you know when it is — please let us know……
Cottage Art Gallery
Jul 22nd
Visited Dick Summers today, painter and owner of the Cottage Art Gallery.
This is situated on a remote foothill of Cadair Idris, high above Dolgellau in Snowdonia, Wales. An interesting drive along some steep narrow roads set amongst breathtaking Welsh scenery.
I went because of an interest in oil painting and artists, but also because of the isolated location and to see if I could re-use Dick’s colour composition within my fabric designs.
Yep is the short answer, at least for the flora – but can I portray the naked form in fabric? Not so sure there – a) who would model for me and b) skin tones are much more difficult to replicate in fabric than in oil.
An interesting question though. Has it ever been done, to represent a real nude model on a quilt rather than on canvas?
