Bowling
Aug 2nd
Bowling – but not as you thought either the 10pin or Cricket variety.
Bowling – as in making bowls, fabric bowls from old string and waste fabric.
These have proved quite popular at local charity fund raising events and I’m not sure where the idea came from. Basically old fabric is coiled around string and then this combination is shaped into a bowl and machine stitched.
Simple, quick and fun ….
Aide to memory?
Mar 21st
BBCÂ News Wed 18th feb 09
“Those who had during middle age been busy reading, playing games or engaging in craft hobbies like patchworking or knitting were found to have a 40% reduced risk of memory impairment… a US study suggests.

This is something us Patchwork Quilters have known for years… NOT!!
Where did i put my snippers/scissors/cutter/pins?
I know I have a piece of fabric that would be just right… It was in this cupboard/box/drawer… wasn’t it?
Oh sorry dear I really forgot to check the dinner… Is it really burnt to a cinder?
That’s why for years we’ve been creating ‘Quilts and Wallhangings’ to help us remember!
Recently, In our March Newsletter we highlighted a lovely quilt found nearly completed and I was asked by the owners if I could finish it so they could use it and show off the hours of love given to this quilt by a lady ‘Ada Beard of Snowshill, Gloucestershire.
“Her family had been Licensee of The Snowshill Arms in the village for many years. Ada never married and ran the pub, almost to her death in 1968 at the age of 91. Ada was a second cousin of my husbands great grandmother Anne beard, When she left ’The Snowshill Arms’ my husband had to empty the pub and found the quilt almost finished, his best guess is that Ada made it in the years between 1897 and 1948″.
I got to thinking, does anyone remember this lady Ada from the ‘The Snowshill Arms’ and does the present licensee have any interest in Patchwork & Quilting?

Christmas Patchwork
Nov 30th
It seems that Christmas is nearly upon us.
We have been inundated with requests for our own speciality Christmas Stockings for the kids and even the cats and dogs.
This has kept us very busy over the past few days, but productive in design and making of these fabric goodies.
We also have had requests for cushions as presents, many with a Welsh theme but some more individual like a watering can cushion for a keen gardener. Just shows that you can make virtually anything from fabric with a bit of imagination.
Keep those requests comming – we enjoy the challenge and the sewing.
Summer Hols
Aug 18th
Well, we played hookey last week (actually we had a 1st class sub in the shop, but we were awol).
We went to New Quay, Ceredigion, camping for a couple of nights with Jemma, Alex, the two “rats”, and the three “amigos” (Alex’s 3 daughters). They had a longer hol but we were mindful of our quilting responsibilities in Corris and returned early.
Better than last year when our summer hols consisted of one day on the beach at Aberdyfi with Jay and her kids. Excellent day that was as well, but too short.
Good weather, good beaches, some exquisite kite flying, and the three “amigos” turned themselves into Sand Monsters, but the sea soon put paid to that.
Great time, very enjoyable … back to reality with a bump.
Corris Craft Centre has been heaving this week. Awash with people and water from the occasional heavy downpour of rain.
We continue to do our patchwork and quilting, our new line of Welsh cushions have provoked much interest.
