North-West Wales biennial Quilt & Craft Festival – Celf yn y Llan
This is a biannual trail of art showcased within 5 local buildings in and around Dyffryn Ardudwy on the west coast of Gwynedd, Wales. The aim is to demonstrate local quilts, furniture, paintings and other crafts. Primarily it features local artistes, there is always room for those of national or even international renown.
Admission is free and even for those without an interest in crafts, the buildings housing the exhibits are themselves of architectural or historical significance.
The event runs from 15 – 19 September 2010 from 10:00 until 17:00 BST

As there is nowhere in earth you would rather be than in mid Wales during any August and September, this is a quilting exhibition that just cannot be missed for the quality of work, imagination, style, presentation and an opportunity to explore and share knowledge with all the folk of the Quilt Association.
Plus Llanidloes is a rather charming Welsh village with a substantial history and wondrous scenery all around to be enjoyed however you travel.
The Festival of Quilts @ The NEC

Running at the NEC, Birmingham from 19 – 22 August 2010 this is an exhibition not to be missed by any lover of textiles, sewing, vibrant colours and textures, and audacious imagination for this must be Europe’s leading quilting event of 2010
Workshops, competitions, amateur and professional works showcased, together with the stalls of scores of suppliers there is something to keep you occupied and entertained all day long.
Unlike 2009 I have no works in the competition, but I intend going as a spectator this year and hopefully I’ll see some of my friends and customers there ….
American Quilts: Selections from the Winterthur Collection

This is aimed at all those who are fortunate to be able to get to Milwaukee before Sept 9th 2010 …
The Art Museum is exhibiting 40 quilts from the early years of post-Independent America circa 1760-1850
The quilts showcase the culture of the time using the most modern printed fabrics of the era as well as the more traditional technique of re-using any old cast off textiles including cottons, woollens and silk.
Even then in what was a new modern society recently unfettered from colonialism, quilting showed itself to be environmentally friendly.
The quilts dramatically demonstrate a richness of colour and design, based on the then recent political turmoil and the emergence of a new society with an independence of spirit and fashion.

That season has returned, and once again the Quilt Association has a summer extravaganza –
Minerva Quilts 10
Featuring:-
- Antique quilts from Jennifer Barlow’s collection.
- Quilts made to mark the 20th anniversary of the European Quilt Association.
- Contemporary work by Doris Alcock, Katharine Guerrier, Sheena Norquay and Jackie Smith.
The exhibition runs from 12-July until 11-Sept 2010

As always, it will be worth every effort to see the spectacular quilts being showcased and to meet again the good folk of the Quilt Association here in Mid Wales
Wool and Willow Exhibition

The Quilt Association is running an exhibition in Llanidloes, Powys as its contribution to the Wool And WIllow Festival.
Details of the Wool and Willow Festival can be found here.- this is a celebration of sustainable fibre crafts and textiles in Mid Wales.
The exhibition with associated workshops and demonstrations runs until 3-July-2010

Yeah for the V&A
May 18th
I have been sent 2 tickets from the V&A for the Quilt Exhibition (for an earlier post see here) Yeah … 
I now have about a month to get there from our corner of rural Wales – but I shall make it by hook or by crook … and I’ll let you know my thoughts although I dare say I shall not be able to share any pictures with you unfortunately – but we’ll see.
Can’t wait – it promises to be a fantastic exhibition of quilts, designs, fabrics and techniques over the centuries
