BBC – Dolgellau – Sesiwn Fawr music festival downsizes for 2010
Jul 5th
BBC – Dolgellaus Sesiwn Fawr music festival downsizes for 2010.
First the good news – it seems that Sesiwn Fawr in Dolgellau is to continue.
Next the better news – it also seems as if the event is to revert to its roots = it will engage with local business and hostelries, and it will again be a fun event that almost every member of  any family can enjoy.
So, the 2010 event is to be broadly based on Jazz and Bluegrass with Folk, poetry and sports bulking it out. It will also showcase Welsh artistes allowing them to interact with a rather random summertime audience who otherwise would have little opportunity to see such acts.
Should therefore perhaps be a simpler and maybe more engaging event for both performer and viewer.
If you are in the area in mid July 2010 this event promises much for all the family to enjoy.
Mid Wales Music Week
Jul 4th
I should have known about this and I should have already blogged about to publicise it.
Tonight is the final night of the “Continental Classics – a mini festival with Iwar Bergkwist, Marilyn Minns, Detlef Tewes and Otto Freudenthal”
Iwar Bergkwist, is a tenor from the Swedish Gothenburg Opera, Marilyn Minns, delights with mezzo soprano and Detlef Tewes, is a mandolin virtuoso while Otto Freudenthal is internationally renowned on the piano.
So, if you are in Mid Wales and you want to to treat your ears to some delightful music just turn up at Theatr Fach in Dolgellau (southern Snowdonia) before 7.30 pm …
Meanwhile – sorry for the short notice – but enjoy ….
Cottage Art Gallery
Jul 22nd
Visited Dick Summers today, painter and owner of the Cottage Art Gallery.
This is situated on a remote foothill of Cadair Idris, high above Dolgellau in Snowdonia, Wales. An interesting drive along some steep narrow roads set amongst breathtaking Welsh scenery.
I went because of an interest in oil painting and artists, but also because of the isolated location and to see if I could re-use Dick’s colour composition within my fabric designs.
Yep is the short answer, at least for the flora – but can I portray the naked form in fabric? Not so sure there – a) who would model for me and b) skin tones are much more difficult to replicate in fabric than in oil.
An interesting question though. Has it ever been done, to represent a real nude model on a quilt rather than on canvas?
