Frosty Fingers
Jan 19th
Been busy in the shop – trying to combat Ye Olde Jack Frost, preparing for Saturday and finishing all the (late) Christmas commissions.
I have prevailed somewhat in that I have beaten numbed fingers and I have now finished all the outstanding commissions; and before you tell me that Christmas passed by several weeks ago, my deadline is tomorrow!!!.
But, I do not have it all sewn up (to coin a phrase).
Now for the hard part and get ready for this coming Saturday…..
Quilters from all over southern Snowdonia are threatening to descend on me and discuss setting up a new quilting bee for those in our part of Meirionnydd … some details here
So, if you too are prepared to brave the chill – come and join us at Bumble Bee Quilting – from experienced to novice – we’ll welcome you all equally on Sat 22-Jan-2011 at about 11 am
Corris Beer Festival 2011
Jan 18th
As some of you know, there are occasions when I am not quilting or attempting to run the house & business.
These times are indeed rare, but uplifting. This happens to be one of them – Corris Beer Festival – running from 17th until 20th Feb 2011 together with music from local bands.
As usual I shall be aiding and abetting with ministering to the cognoscenti from behind the bar, resplendent in costume, fulfilled with tea.
Should you be anywhere in southern Snowdonia in or around Corris – then join us at the Braich Goch Inn and sample some fine ales all the way from Somerset.
Details of this and previous Beer Festivals here

Corris Show
Sep 3rd
It’s that time of year again in the village – time for the village show.
The occasion where everyone can show off their exhibits from crafts to cakes to vegetables.
After threatening to enter “something” for so many years, I have eventually taken the plunge.
I am entering a mini flower arrangement. It’s about 4.5 inches high including stand and pot (read mini saucer and egg cup). All the flowers, leaves, herbs and mosses are from my garden so everything is home grown, although not always by design. Just adds to the interest.
Corris Show – Sat afternoon 4-Sept-2010
Corris Music Festival
Aug 29th
The rolling hills of southern Snowdonia will rock for 4 nights commencing 2nd September 2010 to the sounds of bands, singing, choirs and general harmless frivolity.
Corris Music Festival again hits the scene of this largely forgotten corner of Wales under the watchful eye of the Mother Mountain – Cadair Idris.
With most of the local venues participating it will be a good community event – made even better by the fact that the annual Corris Show almost coincides next Saturday afternoon.
Everyone is more than welcome to come, join in and be entertained by local musicians aided and abetted by acts from much of Wales from traditional Welsh Choirs to modern electronic strings. the event is varied and ambitious in its scope.
Full details can be found here.
As an added bonus there will also be a mini beer festival at the Braich Goch Inn – an opportunity to sample differing flavours from some carefully chosen micro breweries
Kids enjoyed themselves
Aug 23rd
Ah Well – the kids had a field day … for it was indeed their day. Mostly lousy weather so they were all dry and safe indoors being constructive and learning new worthwhile crafting skills, as well as using some imagination.
Designing, choosing fabrics and colours, sewing and needlefelting. Every single one of them managed to create something of their own, either for themselves or for a friend or relative. Everyone took something home with them, something that they had made themselves – with just some guidance (usually with scissors and needles) from myself or Mum.
But with all those needles, pins and a gaggle of small girls and boys I did not take any pictures (again ….) – too chaotic and noisy with tiny piercing squeals of joy.
But, a hugely enjoyable day that we’ll repeat soon. A day they can all be proud of themselves for what they have learnt and for what they have made.
My stash of “old” fabrics, wools and felt is now sorely depleted, but in a very worthwhile cause.
Children’s Day
Aug 22nd
Monday 23-Aug-2010 is Children’s Day at Bumble Bee Quilting.
The shop will be buzzing to the happy sound of young ‘uns beavering away, being creative and learning something about needlework and quilting whilst they are about it.
We hope to demonstrate basic design techniques, colour matching and the processes involved in putting it all together so that they can take something away with them that they have made.
It will not be a “heavy” day, but bright and fun although hopefully something will have been learnt come the end of it.
It’s an opportunity for the kids to get together, enjoy each other’s company and have fun with colour and cotton.
If you are in the Corris area and you want to join in the rampage — then just turn up. All are welcome.
Corris Show
Aug 9th
It is the Corris Show on Sat 4th September 2010
The usual type of village show including veg, fruit & flowers, and handicrafts.
I’m thinking of putting an entry into the handicrafts section. But, I’m also thinking that I should stay away from all the fabric sections, most especially patchwork and quilting. That just would not be fair.
So, I’m thinking of making a flower in an oasis mounted in a glass eggcup.
Can see it in my mind’s eye and I have all the ingredients (except for the eggcup which I hope to borrow from someone), just need the time and patience!
We’ll see – but anyway, if you are in or around Corris in Sat 4 Sept 2010 and want to pay our local school a visit you will be pleasantly surprised instead to find our local show.
Hope to see you then, just don’t forget to say hello ….
