I am busy trying to complete my entry for the exhibition. I have until Friday and time is very short, but I’m working flat out.
This is one of the UK’s premier Quilting exhibitions, miss at your peril …..
An opportunity to see some of my designs, if you have not seen them in my shop at Corris Craft Centre, and an example of contemporary Welsh craft.

The annual Dyffryn Ardudwy summer craft fair is nearly upon us … This is a mid-summer fair highlighting all sorts of crafts including knitting, photography, painting and textiles (if I have left any out be sure to let me know).
Mostly, if not all, of the exhibitors are local Welsh craftspeople.
BUT — When is it???? Bumble Bee Quilting usually exhibits quilts and wallhangings and other textile wonders.
But, as we don’t know when its to happen we cannot advertise it in our shop in Corris, nor attend.
If you know when it is — please let us know……

Just realised that this is the 4th year that I’ve attended this prestigious quilting festival in Carno, and the 6th year the event has been held
Enjoyed every moment, met many new quilters and I have really enjoyed seeing your creations, quilts and otherwise.
Also, I must commend your choice of fabrics in your quilts (I think I may have recognised some I have previous sold you!!!!)
Anyway, another resounding success – here’s to next year….
PS – to all of you who bought tickets from me for the draw on 26-July-2009 to raise funds for Hope House Hospice and BBC Children in Need— Sorry, but better luck next time.
The group also presented 6 lap quilts for the charity Linus UK.
As you missed out on the Carno draw, tickets for the Teresa Anna Quilt in aid of Breast Cancer Research are still on sale in the shop. The draw for this charity quilt will conclude the “Pink Weekend” at Corris Craft Centre on 25th October 2009

Else, come to Carno, join in with the Maldwyn Quilters’ exhibitions and workshops. Don’t forget – Carno Community Centre, Powys, Mid Wales – open Fri-Sun

Visited Dick Summers today, painter and owner of the Cottage Art Gallery.
This is situated on a remote foothill of Cadair Idris, high above Dolgellau in Snowdonia, Wales. An interesting drive along some steep narrow roads set amongst breathtaking Welsh scenery.
I went because of an interest in oil painting and artists, but also because of the isolated location and to see if I could re-use Dick’s colour composition within my fabric designs.
Yep is the short answer, at least for the flora – but can I portray the naked form in fabric? Not so sure there – a) who would model for me and b) skin tones are much more difficult to replicate in fabric than in oil.
An interesting question though. Has it ever been done, to represent a real nude model on a quilt rather than on canvas?

I started the Out of Africa wallhanging theme from Jemma and Alex’s photos of their honeymoon safari in Kenya.
This was the photgraph that prompted me to include the Elephant, that noble and ancient beast of the Kenyan grasslands, as they relaxed in a muddy pool.

Getting rid of the “bums and legs” while lengthening the picture gave me this

Elephant all alone
I created a “virtual” baby elephant to share the pool with its relative

The end result which will be the basis of the Elephant wallhanging from my Out of Africa series, now looks like this

Leonardo might recognise the lines ….. and I’m sure you all do too.

I am designing a series of quilted wallhangings based on animal pictures my daughter Jemma and her new husband Alex took whilst on their honeymoon in Kenya in 2008.
I shall show the design processes as they develop
Meanwhile – many congrats from us both on your first Anniversary

This is the Autumn wallhanging which was amazingly sold while still under construction … and then delivered when finished,
Autumn was the first of my 4 season set to be designed and made – winter will complete the set – spring has been sold and summer is still on display in Machynlleth.
