Ram Raid – or how I lost a tooth

In the early hours of last Tuesday morning the phone went.

The caller identified themselves as the Heddlu (Police) and that I should attend our unit at Corris Craft Centre.
Joke or what – I didn’t know.
I put the phone down and in my deranged state walked straight into the wall. Out popped my lower front tooth. Being made of stern stuff, I didn’t bat an eyelid but proceeded down to our fabric shop at the craft centre.

Waiting for me were 3 very efficient police officers and the remains of our shop front.

Apparently someone had driven up the paths and ram raided ourselves and 3 other craft units (The Candle Studio, Delyn Glass, and Design-A-Kard).

Carnage.

The cash from our tills had been taken and a fabric bag from ourselves. In our case between £80.00 and £100.00 had gone in cash (about 6 months profit).

Apparently the noise of the raid and the alarms alterted some people over the other side of the valley and the called the police. Thanks good neighbours of Corris.

But, there was no arson, there was no vandalism (except for the shop front), and most of the goods were intact. Relief – it could have been so much worse. But, they also took 2 charity boxes, one for the Red Cross and one for the Wales Air Ambulance – that is shameful.

Having spent a cold night in the now insecure shop. the CSI guy turned up nice and early. As he went about his photograph and fingerprint work he joked that it was not like CSI on the TV. No case of the perps in jail within an hour. Well, 5 minutes later he reported that the suspects were in custody.

Seems the real police are more efficient than the TV ones.

The rascals (who are not local) had apparently stolen a car somewhere, comiitted this henious act and maybe others, and then burnt the car out before being apprehended.

36 hous later our shop front was boarded up and made almost secure and now we wait for a replacement shop front. Meanwhile we lost out on some of the best trading days af the year.

But, with the lost tooth the rotters saved me the £40.00 cost of a dentist bill for its extraction – so not a bad as it might have been.

Machynlleth Market

From now until about Easter 2007 we shall be on the Wednesday Market in Machynlleth at least on the first Wednesday of the Month.

Hope to see you there – all the fun of the market in the festive period.
